![]() That's when the hard drive would start up and run about 30 minutes before going to sleep, the time specified in my power settings. When done working, I've been closing the lid and then placed the mouse pad and mouse on the lid and moved the trio to a stool. So I've been sitting on a sofa using my laptop on, err, my lap. I've been away visiting family and have no desk space. It was caused by movement of my wireless mouse. Gail, just a thought that with movement sensitivity set to its highest level, is the notebook perhaps picking up vibration from something like an air conditioning unit that might be causing minor vibration? Here's an article on Microsoft's web site that may help you to track down the culprit if that's the case (try disabling the ability for the network adapter, specific usb devices, etc., to wake a computer from sleep mode) ![]() For example, Network Activity could be "waking up" your machine right after sleep mode is enabled. If that doesn't work (make sure your hard drives are included in the Power Management settings for the Plan you're using by looking under the Advanced Settings and expanding the Hard Drives Section), then you may have something else impacting sleep mode. So, for whatever reason, you may not have Hard Drives selected so that they honor Sleep Mode settings (but, going into the Advanced Options should let you look at devices on a case by case basis, including your Hard Drives). You'll see Hard Drives in the Advanced Screens, where you can click on the + beside Hard Drives and expand the settings screens for them. Then, click on "Change Advanced Power Settings", and you'll see more detail about a given power plan. That's where you select the interval (which you wan to set) to turn off the display, etc. Then, choose your current active power scheme and click Change Plan Settings. Look at your Advanced Settings options to make sure the hard drive is actually included. Just because you have Windows setup to sleep after xx minutes, doesn't mean your hard drive is part of that power plan.
